UNMISSABLE FORUM IN MONACO: ENERGY SECURITY FOR THE FUTURE

by Ilio Masprone – Publisher – Knight of the Principality of Monaco for cultural merits MONACO. Dear Followers, the 3rd international forum “Energy Security For the Future 2018” is so important that it should not be missed. Be the first to hear latest updates on the most prominent energy event of the year. The annual meeting-place for Ukrainian and international leaders of energy market will take place at the Yacht Club de Monaco, Monte-Carlo on the 1 June 2018. Also if the US Presidend Donald Trump has recently declared to be open to the possibility of rejoining the Paris agreement at a later date “under terms more favorable to the American people”, the Sovereign is ready to intervene during the 2018 forum, because, as he said in occasion of Trump’s announcement to disagree in 2017: “This decision is a serious misjudgment for our planet and it also undermines America’s global leadership and its own economic interests. In fact, it underestimates the growth prospects offered by a low-carbon economy on the basis of technological innovation.” Therefore, everybody hope that the new entry speaker Mary Landrieu, U.S. Senator, Chair of Committee on Energy and Natural Resources (1997 – 2015), will share her insights into the energy security and sustainability, promoting innovation and inclusion. In 2017, SAS Prince Albert II of Monaco opened the 2nd Forum at the Yacht Club de Monaco declaring: «I am delighted to welcome you to Monaco for the second year running. You have come here to focus on a particularly sensitive subject: that of energy security. I want to stress how important this issue is, and above all how it must be tackled globally. Today we are at a crossroad. The energy model that our society has adopted over the last few decades has clearly revealed its numerous shortcomings.» During the speaker faculty presided over by His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco, Andris Piebalgs, European Commissioner for Energy in 2004 and 2009, said: “I think I will spare time going through European history on energy, but I believe that there is a new dimension now evolving. It is the so-called Energy Union. And you would wonderwhat is the difference between the EU policies and the Energy Union policy. I think there are at least three dimensions. One dimension is that energy policy is being very sensitive. And speaking of this, it is very important to clearly see the problem and to speak about it with one voice… So my plead today is let’s take this seriously, the Energy Union…» “ The Forum “Energy Security for the Future” (ESF) was founded in January 2016 by the president of the Burisma Group, Nikolay Zlochevskyi, Foundation of Prince Albert II of Monaco and Foundation of the former President of Poland Alexander Kwasniewski (1995-2005) Amicus Europae. They invited European leaders and parliamentarians to gather together to discuss Europe’s energy strategy. The venue for the first Forum was chosen to be the Principality of Monaco, a country that has always been associated with environmental innovation, vision, and leadership and which has since become the birthplace of a new global movement to replace traditional energy with renewable sources. The first of what would become an annual forum called ‘‘Energy Security for the Future: new sources, responsibility, sustainability’’ was held June 2, 2016 at the Yacht Club de Monaco in Monte Carlo, Monaco, drawing more than 150 participants from across Europe. Among them were presidents, parliamentarians, and European commissioners. Organized for the third consecutive year in the Principality of Monaco from, the 2018 forum aims to promote the enhancement of energy security and the development of clean and reliable energy sources. The conference will bring together political leaders and energy security and clean energy experts to enable them to address key energy issues and find effective solutions. Within our editions -Montecarlotimes – Les Nouvelles, the magazine Il Foglio Italiano and our social Network – we have supported with many articles the fundamental issue of environmental sustainability. Today, I strongly support the Principality’s position in particular with regard to the need of improving energy security and promoting the development of clean and reliable energy sources. Although the tiny Principality of Monaco is responsible only to a small extent on global emissions, the country has the ambition to be a leader and innovator in the energy sector and has therefore decided to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 (Compared to 1990), thus participating in an active role at COP21 in Paris 2015. Undersigning the deal with the largest and rich nations has represented and represents a major and important commitment for Monaco. It is clear that these measures have a cost but the Principality of Monaco believes that “the price for a green world is insignificant compared to the cost of non-intervention.”said the Sovereign. In keeping its support for green environment policy, Monaco remains loyal to the Green Climate Fund of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), signed in the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
