On the opening night of Milan Fashion Week, Vogue World transformed the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II into a spectacular celebration of Italian fashion, craftsmanship and culture

Milan Fashion Week opened with an event designed to place fashion at the centre of the city itself. On September 22, Vogue World: Milano 2026 brought its fifth edition to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, turning one of Milan’s most recognisable landmarks into an extraordinary runway.

Following previous editions in New York, London, Paris and Los Angeles, Vogue World arrived in Italy for the first time, choosing Milan as the setting for a show conceived as a tribute to the country’s creative heritage and the relationship between fashion, art, music and performance. It was also the first time that the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II hosted a fashion show of this scale.

Rather than presenting fashion as a conventional succession of collections, the evening unfolded as a large-scale performance divided into four acts. More than 360 talents took part, bringing together models, artists, performers and some of the most recognisable names in contemporary culture. Roberto Bolle opened the show, while Alicia Keys performed live during the evening.

The concept placed particular emphasis on the dialogue between Italy’s fashion history and its contemporary creative landscape. Archive pieces appeared alongside new creations, allowing iconic designs to be viewed through a new generation of performers and models.

Among the most memorable appearances was Vittoria Ceretti, who opened in Valentino Haute Couture before returning for the finale in a custom Prada creation. Her two looks represented two different chapters of Italian fashion, connecting the heritage of the great maisons with the language of contemporary design.

Prada’s archive also played a significant role in the evening. Model Fei Fei Sun walked the runway in an archival Prada look from the 2000s, highlighting how pieces from the past can continue to influence contemporary fashion aesthetics.

The opening sequence brought another distinctly Milanese reference. Etro created dramatic hooded capes decorated with the maison’s characteristic Paisley motif, giving the beginning of the show an almost theatrical atmosphere as mysterious figures moved through the Galleria.

Beyond the individual looks, Vogue World presented fashion as part of a wider cultural ecosystem. Craftsmanship, performance and music became equally important elements of the spectacle, reflecting a fashion industry increasingly interested in storytelling and cultural dialogue rather than the runway alone.

The choice of the Galleria was central to that message. One of Milan’s historic architectural symbols became, for one evening, a living stage where the city’s past and present met through fashion.

With Vogue World Milano 2026, Milan Fashion Week began not simply with a runway show, but with a celebration of the creative identity that continues to define Italian fashion on the international stage.
