When Contemporary Art Meets the Monaco Yacht Show

At the Monaco Yacht Show, the world of superyachting increasingly extends beyond naval architecture and engineering. Design, interiors and contemporary art have become an integral part of the visual landscape surrounding the event, creating a natural connection between the yacht and the wider luxury world.

During the 2026 edition, Opera Gallery brought this dialogue to Port Hercule with a presentation combining modern and contemporary art within the setting of one of the world’s leading yachting events.

From 23 to 26 September, the gallery occupied booth PP81 in the Upper Deck Lounge, presenting works by an international selection of artists including Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Yves Klein, Manolo Valdés, Ron Arad, Pablo Atchugarry, Feng Xiao-Min, Andy Denzler, Pieter Obels and Bao Vuong.

The presentation was not limited to the gallery space.

Under the title “Art Beyond the Booth”, Opera Gallery also presented works by Robert Indiana, Manolo Valdés, Pablo Atchugarry and Pieter Obels in other areas of the fair. Particularly visible were four sculptures by Dutch artist Pieter Obels positioned at the entrance to the Monaco Yacht Show.

Created in Corten steel, Obels’ sculptures are inspired by organic forms found in nature. Their placement at the entrance created an immediate artistic presence before visitors entered the main exhibition area, establishing a visual connection between the architecture of the fair, the harbour and the artworks themselves.

The choice of location was particularly appropriate for an event where design plays such a central role. A modern superyacht is not simply an engineered vessel: its interiors are carefully composed environments in which materials, lighting, furniture, artworks and spatial proportions contribute to a specific aesthetic identity.

The presence of Opera Gallery at the MYS reflects this increasingly close relationship between the art and yachting worlds. The yacht has become an environment in which collectors can integrate works of art into a highly personalised architectural setting, while galleries and artists increasingly participate in luxury events where international collectors and designers naturally converge.

Opera Gallery’s selection in Monaco also demonstrated the breadth of the contemporary art market, bringing together internationally recognised modern masters and artists working across different media and generations. Picasso, Chagall and Yves Klein appeared alongside contemporary names such as Ron Arad, Pablo Atchugarry, Andy Denzler, Pieter Obels and Bao Vuong.

In this context, art became more than a decorative element of the yacht show. It formed part of the wider cultural landscape of the event.

For four days, Port Hercule brought together superyachts, architecture, design, luxury craftsmanship and contemporary art within a single setting. Opera Gallery’s presence reinforced this intersection, demonstrating how the language of luxury is increasingly shaped by different creative disciplines rather than by one sector alone.

In Monaco, where yachting and the international art world naturally meet, the 2026 edition offered another example of this evolution: the superyacht is increasingly considered not only as a feat of engineering, but also as a carefully curated space in which design, culture and personal expression can coexist.

Particolarmente visibili sono state le quattro sculture dell’artista olandese Pieter Obels collocate all’ingresso del Monaco Yacht Show.

Picasso, Chagall e Yves Klein sono stati presentati accanto a nomi contemporanei come Ron Arad, Pablo Atchugarry, Andy Denzler, Pieter Obels e Bao Vuong.
