The 2026 edition of Watches and Wonders came to an end, but the collections presented were clearly standing up for a totally new beginning. The perfect example is, without any further introduction, Van Cleef & Arpels. The “Poetry of the Heaven” collection pays tribute to the duality between day and night, moon and sun, with some stunning pieces revealing a sort of continuity between what is supposed to come to an end and what is supposed to mean a new beginning.
The technical part is there to be judged by the experts, but the exclusivity, desire, and uniqueness are certainly for the clientèle.
As always, the details made all the difference. This is especially true for the Heure d’ici et Heure d’ailleurs model. On the front, a beautifully executed watch, minimalist and in two colors. But if we pay closer attention, we can observe that both time zones are adjusted via a single, seamless crown, maintaining the watch’s minimalist aesthetic without sacrificing technical complexity. The interesting part is how Van Cleef chooses to talk about it. The storytelling is an important part of the brand, particularly when their pieces become a lively, joyful piece of art and poetry. Here, it is not only about an hour or a time zone; it is about where you are on this planet as a matter of time and where someone else is.
If we look on the back of the watch, we can find the same idea told in another manner, incorporating the Van Cleef poetry.
The story of two people being at two completely opposite parts of the planet makes me think of Lady Arpels Rencontre Céleste & Lady Arpels Retrouvailles Céleste. Two watches, one tale reunited in the Qixi myth, which tells the story of a goddess, the Weaver Girl, who fell in love with a Cowherd and remained in the mortal world until the Goddess of Heaven discovered the transgression and ordered her to return to Heaven. Mesmerized by this pure love, the Cowherd’s ox began to speak and told him to kill it and take its hide to help him fly to heaven to meet with his beloved one. Witnessing this, the Goddess of Heaven created a river of stars, separating the two forever. However, a flock of magpies created a bridge to help them stay together. As a response to this love and devotion, the Goddess of Heaven decided to let the Weaver Girl and the Cowherd meet in heaven, but only once a year, on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month.
This folkloric Chinese legend is perfectly emphasized through the creation of two separate watches communicating the same message: even if a goddess, god, or the Milky Way decides to separate two lovers, there is no such thing as accepting it, but fighting back, demonstrating the impossible for those who have lost hope on their way.
Van Cleef & Arpels designs are so special, not only because they create watches or jewelry, but because they create emotions and transgress the impossible, making the beauty and joy of life their most powerful weapon.

L’edizione 2026 di Watches and Wonders si è conclusa, ma le collezioni presentate hanno chiaramente segnato l’inizio di una nuova era. L’esempio perfetto, senza bisogno di ulteriori presentazioni, è Van Cleef & Arpels. La collezione “Poetry of the Heaven” rende omaggio alla dualità tra giorno e notte, luna e sole, attraverso creazioni straordinarie che raccontano una continuità tra ciò che sembra finire e ciò che, invece, rappresenta un nuovo inizio.
La componente tecnica è destinata al giudizio degli esperti, ma esclusività, desiderio e unicità parlano direttamente alla clientela.
Come sempre, sono i dettagli a fare la differenza. Questo è particolarmente evidente nel modello Heure d’ici et Heure d’ailleurs. A prima vista, si presenta come un orologio elegante, minimalista e disponibile in due tonalità. Tuttavia, osservandolo più attentamente, si scopre che entrambi i fusi orari sono regolati tramite un’unica corona, perfettamente integrata, che preserva l’estetica essenziale senza rinunciare alla complessità tecnica.
La parte più affascinante è il modo in cui Van Cleef & Arpels sceglie di raccontare questa creazione. Lo storytelling è infatti centrale per la maison, soprattutto quando i suoi pezzi si trasformano in vere e proprie opere d’arte, vive e poetiche. Qui non si tratta semplicemente di indicare un’ora o un fuso orario: è una riflessione su dove ci troviamo nel mondo e su dove si trovi qualcun altro nello stesso istante.
Questa leggenda folkloristica cinese viene evocata con grande forza attraverso la creazione di due orologi distinti che condividono lo stesso messaggio: anche se una dea, un dio o la Via Lattea tentano di separare due amanti, non esiste accettazione passiva, ma una lotta contro il destino, una dimostrazione dell’impossibile per chi ha smarrito la speranza.
Le creazioni di Van Cleef & Arpels sono così uniche non solo perché danno vita a orologi o gioielli, ma perché generano emozioni e sfidano i limiti dell’impossibile, trasformando la bellezza e la gioia di vivere nella loro arma più potente.
