The Hungarian Grand Prix weekend started with a strong Ferrari message at the Hungaroring. In the opening free practice session of the 2026 Formula 1 event, Charles Leclerc immediately showed the potential of the SF-26, finishing at the top of the timesheets and confirming Ferrari’s excellent form on a circuit where aerodynamic balance and precision are crucial.
The Monegasque driver delivered the fastest lap of the session with a time of 1:19.075, putting together a convincing performance from the early stages. Leclerc’s pace was clear, with the Ferrari driver finishing almost half a second ahead of Max Verstappen’s Red Bull, while Lewis Hamilton completed an impressive Ferrari one-two-three at the top of the classification.
Ferrari’s performance was particularly significant considering the characteristics of the Hungaroring. The tight and technical Hungarian circuit rewards a car with strong cornering ability, stability and mechanical grip rather than pure straight-line speed — areas where the SF-26 appeared immediately competitive.
Behind Leclerc, Verstappen emerged as the first major threat. The Red Bull driver finished second and remained within striking distance, confirming that Ferrari’s advantage in FP1 should be analysed carefully ahead of qualifying. The Dutchman’s presence at the top of the standings suggests that the battle for the front could become another close Ferrari-Red Bull duel.
Lewis Hamilton completed the top three with the second Ferrari, although the seven-time World Champion continued working on the balance of the car and searching for the ideal setup around Budapest’s demanding layout. His position, however, highlighted Ferrari’s strong opening to the weekend.
The session was not completely smooth for Leclerc. In the final part of FP1, the Ferrari driver was forced to stop due to a suspected technical issue, ending his session earlier than planned. Despite the problem, the gap created during his fastest laps was enough to keep him at the top of the leaderboard.
There were also changes to the usual driver line-ups, with several rookies and reserve drivers taking part in the session. Mercedes championship leader Kimi Antonelli did not participate in FP1, with Frederik Vesti taking his place, while other teams used the opening hour to evaluate updates brought specifically for the Hungarian track.
The first indication from Budapest is therefore clear: Ferrari has arrived with confidence. Leclerc’s speed, Hamilton’s competitiveness and Verstappen’s immediate response suggest that the Hungarian Grand Prix could offer another fascinating chapter in the 2026 championship battle.
At the Hungaroring, the fight has already begun — and Ferrari has fired the first shot.

Il weekend del Gran Premio d’Ungheria è iniziato con un messaggio forte da parte della Ferrari. Nella prima sessione di prove libere della gara 2026 di Formula 1, Charles Leclerc ha portato la SF-26 al vertice della classifica, confermando l’ottimo momento della Scuderia su un circuito dove equilibrio aerodinamico, precisione e trazione sono fondamentali.
Il pilota monegasco ha realizzato il miglior tempo della sessione con un crono di 1:19.075, costruendo una prestazione convincente fin dai primi giri. Il ritmo della Ferrari è apparso subito evidente: Leclerc ha chiuso davanti a Max Verstappen con un vantaggio vicino al mezzo secondo, mentre Lewis Hamilton ha completato una classifica iniziale dominata dalle Rosse.
La prestazione della Ferrari assume un valore particolare considerando le caratteristiche dell’Hungaroring. Il tracciato di Budapest, composto da numerose curve lente e tecniche, premia infatti le monoposto capaci di garantire stabilità, aderenza e un ottimo comportamento nei cambi di direzione più che la semplice velocità sui rettilinei. La SF-26 ha mostrato fin da subito un grande equilibrio.
Alle spalle di Leclerc si è piazzato Max Verstappen, primo vero rivale del pilota Ferrari. L’olandese ha mantenuto un distacco comunque contenuto, dimostrando che il risultato delle FP1 dovrà essere interpretato con attenzione in vista delle qualifiche. La Red Bull resta infatti una minaccia concreta nella lotta per le posizioni di vertice.
Lewis Hamilton ha completato la top tre con la seconda Ferrari, confermando il grande inizio di weekend della squadra di Maranello. Il sette volte campione del mondo ha continuato a lavorare sul bilanciamento della vettura e sulla ricerca del set-up ideale su un circuito particolarmente impegnativo dal punto di vista tecnico, ma il suo piazzamento conferma la competitività della SF-26.
La sessione non è però terminata senza qualche preoccupazione per Leclerc. Negli ultimi minuti delle FP1, il monegasco è stato costretto a fermarsi per un possibile problema tecnico, chiudendo anticipatamente il proprio lavoro in pista. Il vantaggio accumulato nei giri precedenti è stato comunque sufficiente per mantenere la prima posizione.
La prima sessione di Budapest ha visto anche diversi cambi di formazione, con alcuni giovani piloti chiamati in pista dalle squadre per rispettare gli obblighi legati ai rookie. In casa Mercedes, il leader del Mondiale Kimi Antonelli ha lasciato il volante a Frederik Vesti per le FP1, mentre diversi team hanno sfruttato l’ora disponibile per analizzare gli aggiornamenti portati sul circuito ungherese.
Il primo verdetto dall’Ungheria è quindi chiaro: Ferrari è arrivata preparata. La velocità di Leclerc, la competitività di Hamilton e la risposta immediata di Verstappen fanno pensare a un altro weekend di grande equilibrio nella stagione 2026.
All’Hungaroring la sfida è appena iniziata. E il primo colpo lo ha messo a segno la Ferrari.
