Lando Norris has taken pole position for the 2026 Dutch Grand Prix after a tense and closely fought qualifying session at Zandvoort. The McLaren driver set the fastest time in 1:11.163, ending Mercedes’ strong run that had characterised Sprint qualifying and securing the best possible starting position for Sunday’s race.
Behind him, George Russell will start just 102 thousandths of a second behind. Even closer to the pole time was Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who qualified third, only 133 thousandths off Norris. It was another impressive performance from the young Italian, who continues to establish himself among the leading figures of the championship and will start alongside Oscar Piastri.
Qualifying ended with an added element of tension due to the threat of rain. With weather conditions changing rapidly, the drivers had to make the most of their first Q3 attempts, knowing that the track could become slower in the closing minutes. Norris managed to deliver the perfect lap at the crucial moment, while Mercedes narrowly missed out on an all-front-row lockout.
For Norris, the pole is particularly important after the outcome of the Sprint. The Briton finished third in the short race, behind George Russell and Charles Leclerc, but responded in the best possible way in the session that determines the starting order for the main Grand Prix. McLaren once again demonstrated its impressive one-lap pace, and Norris will now have the opportunity to turn that speed into a victory on Sunday.
Russell, meanwhile, is enjoying an outstanding weekend in the Netherlands. After taking pole for the Sprint and converting it into a victory, the Mercedes driver secured second place for the Grand Prix. His narrow gap to Norris leaves the door wide open for the race and further underlines Mercedes’ strength around the Zandvoort circuit.
Even more significant is Kimi Antonelli’s third-place result. The championship leader will start ahead of his Mercedes teammate and has an excellent opportunity to fight for the podium. The young Italian finished just 133 thousandths behind Norris, showing strong pace after taking a more conservative approach in the Sprint to secure valuable championship points.
The biggest disappointment of qualifying came from Ferrari. The Scuderia was unable to break into the top two rows and will start the race with Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc on the third row. Hamilton secured fifth place, 331 thousandths off pole, while teammate Leclerc qualified sixth, 395 thousandths behind Norris.
For Ferrari, the result falls short of expectations after Leclerc’s podium finish in the Sprint. The Monegasque driver had been one of the stars of the short race, finishing second behind Russell, but was unable to reproduce the same level of performance over a single qualifying lap. Hamilton, meanwhile, came out on top in the Ferrari internal battle and will start ahead of his teammate.
The all-Ferrari third row could nevertheless become an opportunity. Zandvoort is a circuit where starting position carries significant weight, and having both SF-26s close to the leading group gives Ferrari a strong platform from which to attack. The challenge will now be finding the race pace needed to close the gap to Mercedes and McLaren.
Max Verstappen, meanwhile, faces a more difficult Sunday in front of his home crowd. The Red Bull driver will start only seventh, 455 thousandths behind Norris. It is a result well below pole-position expectations, particularly after Verstappen had already struggled to find the ideal rhythm during the earlier stages of the weekend.
He will be joined on the fourth row by the other Red Bull of Liam Lawson, who qualified eighth, 570 thousandths off the pole time. Gabriel Bortoleto in the Audi and Arvid Lindblad in the Racing Bulls completed the top ten, both delivering highly impressive qualifying performances.
The result sets up an intriguing Sunday. Norris will start from the front, but he will have two Mercedes immediately behind him and will also need to keep an eye on teammate Piastri. Russell heads into the main race with the confidence of his Sprint victory and could prove to be one of McLaren’s biggest threats.
For Antonelli, third place represents a major opportunity in the championship battle. Starting ahead of both Ferrari drivers and Verstappen gives the young Italian an excellent strategic position. After finishing fourth in the Sprint, he can now target another strong result while keeping his championship advantage firmly in mind.
Ferrari, meanwhile, will need to find an effective race strategy to make up ground. Hamilton and Leclerc will start from the third row, while Verstappen lines up immediately behind them, potentially creating one of the most interesting battles of the opening stages.
Qualifying at Zandvoort has therefore reshuffled the picture after the Sprint. McLaren has taken pole with Norris, Mercedes responds with Russell and Antonelli, Ferrari has placed both cars on the third row, and Verstappen is forced to start only seventh.
After an already eventful Sprint, the Dutch Grand Prix is now set for its decisive chapter. And with such small margins at the front, the battle for victory could begin from the very first corner.

Il pilota McLaren ha firmato il miglior tempo in 1:11.163, riuscendo a interrompere il dominio Mercedes che aveva caratterizzato le qualifiche della Sprint e a conquistare la prima posizione sulla griglia di partenza della gara di domenica.
Alle sue spalle scatterà George Russell, staccato di appena 102 millesimi. Ancora più vicino al compagno di squadra è stato Andrea Kimi Antonelli, terzo a soli 133 millesimi dalla pole. Un risultato estremamente positivo per il giovane italiano, che continua così a confermarsi tra i protagonisti assoluti del campionato e partirà dalla seconda fila, al fianco di Oscar Piastri.
La qualifica ha avuto un finale particolarmente concitato a causa del rischio di pioggia. Con le condizioni meteorologiche in rapido cambiamento, i piloti hanno dovuto sfruttare al massimo il primo tentativo in Q3, consapevoli che la pista avrebbe potuto diventare più lenta nei minuti conclusivi. Per Norris si tratta di una pole particolarmente importante dopo il risultato della Sprint. Il britannico aveva concluso la gara breve al terzo posto, alle spalle di George Russell e Charles Leclerc, ma ha reagito nel modo migliore possibile nella sessione che determina la posizione di partenza del Gran Premio. La McLaren ha dimostrato ancora una volta di avere una vettura estremamente competitiva sul giro secco e Norris avrà ora la possibilità di trasformare questa velocità in una vittoria domenica.
Russell, invece, continua il suo straordinario weekend olandese. Dopo aver conquistato la pole della Sprint e averla trasformata in una vittoria, il pilota Mercedes si è assicurato la seconda posizione per il Gran Premio. Il distacco minimo da Norris lascia aperte tutte le possibilità per la gara e, soprattutto, conferma la solidità della Mercedes sul tracciato di Zandvoort.
Ancora più interessante è il terzo posto di Kimi Antonelli. Il leader del campionato partirà davanti al compagno di squadra e avrà una posizione ideale per puntare al podio. Il giovane italiano ha chiuso a soli 133 millesimi da Norris, dimostrando di aver ritrovato velocità dopo una Sprint nella quale aveva preferito gestire il rischio e portare a casa punti preziosi.
La sorpresa negativa della qualifica arriva invece dalla Ferrari. La Scuderia non è riuscita a inserirsi nelle prime due file e dovrà partire dalla terza fila con Lewis Hamilton e Charles Leclerc. La terza fila tutta Ferrari potrebbe comunque trasformarsi in un’importante opportunità. Zandvoort è un circuito nel quale la posizione di partenza ha un peso notevole e partire dalla quinta e dalla sesta casella mantiene entrambe le SF-26 abbastanza vicine al gruppo di testa. La sfida sarà ora quella di trovare il ritmo necessario per avvicinarsi alle Mercedes e alle McLaren durante la gara.
Max Verstappen dovrà invece affrontare una domenica complicata davanti al pubblico di casa. Il pilota Red Bull partirà soltanto settimo, a 455 millesimi da Norris. Un risultato decisamente lontano dalla pole e dalle aspettative dei tifosi olandesi, soprattutto considerando che Verstappen aveva già mostrato qualche difficoltà nel trovare il ritmo durante la prima parte del weekend.
Al suo fianco partirà l’altra Red Bull di Liam Lawson, ottavo a 570 millesimi. A completare la top ten saranno Gabriel Bortoleto con Audi e Arvid Lindblad con Racing Bulls, protagonisti di una qualifica molto positiva.
Il risultato rende la gara di domenica particolarmente interessante. Norris partirà davanti a tutti, ma avrà due Mercedes immediatamente alle sue spalle e dovrà guardarsi anche dal compagno Piastri. Russell arriva inoltre alla gara principale con la fiducia della vittoria nella Sprint e potrebbe rappresentare una delle minacce più concrete per la McLaren.
Per Antonelli, la terza posizione rappresenta invece una grande opportunità in ottica campionato. Partire davanti a entrambi i piloti Ferrari e a Verstappen gli permette di affrontare la gara con una posizione strategica molto favorevole. Dopo aver conquistato il quarto posto nella Sprint, il giovane italiano potrà ora puntare a un altro risultato pesante senza perdere di vista la gestione del vantaggio in classifica.
Ferrari dovrà invece inventare una strategia efficace per recuperare terreno. Hamilton e Leclerc partiranno dalla terza fila, mentre Verstappen scatterà subito dietro di loro: una situazione che potrebbe trasformare le prime fasi della gara in uno dei duelli più interessanti del pomeriggio.
La qualifica di Zandvoort ha dunque rimescolato le carte rispetto alla Sprint. McLaren conquista la pole con Norris, Mercedes risponde con Russell e Antonelli, Ferrari piazza entrambe le vetture in terza fila e Verstappen è costretto a partire soltanto settimo.
Dopo una Sprint già ricca di indicazioni, il Gran Premio d’Olanda si prepara così al suo ultimo capitolo. E con distacchi così ridotti davanti, la sfida per la vittoria potrebbe essere decisa già nelle prime curve.
