Third time seems to be the charm for the AS Monaco Basket team as they have been crowned, yet again in the past four years, French National Champions at the Adidas Arena in Paris, in a heated best-of-five final against Paris Basketball.
The event took place last week on the most memorable Tuesday June 23 in both the club and championship’s history. For La Roca have been indeed rocking it along the entire season with four out of four national titles winning the Supercup for the first time last September, followed by The Leaders’ Cup and the Coupe de France de Basket earlier this year thus breaking the 1993 record previously held by Limoges CSP, which seized the Coupe, the Championship and the Euroleague that year.
The final and fifth game was all the more important with the first away game and the third home match not going Monaco’s way, with losses 95-91 and 77-88 respectively. This way leaving the championship title up in the air until the last minute with the other two wins, 90-102, away and 96-84 at home at the Gaston Médecin Arena.
All off-court concerns weighing down on professional basketball and the clubs in France seem to have been put aside by both teams. For example, one could not help but notice the absence of Matthew Strazel at the Parisian end as well as the surprise return of Mike James (7 points, 7 assists), who was out on a loan this season for Monaco.
The audience in Paris, which included the likes of celebrities and sports figures such as Alexis Lebrun, Omar Sy and Nicolas Batum, was in for a real treat. Each side had an equal chance of winning right up till the final whistle when the scoreboard read 92-101 in favor of the visitors from the Principality, who managed to take over the lead to the championship title in the money time at 81-85 in the fourth quarter.
Elie Okobo was named 2026 MVP with 12 points and 15 assists in game five and for the third time this year: the finals, the overall season and The Leaders’ Cup.
All in all, La Roca is closing in on a record season in style. Having already qualified for the Euroleague, they seem to have their eyes set on to the next one, much to the delight of their supporters and basketball audiences at home and abroad. Well done!

La terza volta è stata quella buona per l’AS Monaco Basket, che negli ultimi quattro anni si è laureata per la terza volta campione di Francia. Il titolo è arrivato all’Adidas Arena di Parigi, al termine di un’infuocata finale al meglio delle cinque gare contro il Paris Basketball.
L’epilogo della serie è andato in scena martedì 23 giugno, una data destinata a entrare nella storia sia del club monegasco sia del campionato francese. La Roca Team ha infatti disputato una stagione straordinaria, conquistando tutti e quattro i trofei nazionali. Dopo aver vinto per la prima volta la Supercoppa lo scorso settembre, ha aggiunto alla propria bacheca anche la Leaders Cup, la Coupe de France e infine il campionato, infrangendo così un primato che apparteneva dal 1993 al Limoges CSP, allora capace di conquistare Coppa di Francia, campionato ed Eurolega.
La quinta e decisiva sfida della finale ha assunto un’importanza ancora maggiore dopo che Monaco aveva ceduto sia nella prima gara in trasferta (95-91) sia nella terza partita casalinga (77-88). Il titolo è quindi rimasto in bilico fino all’ultimo, grazie alle due vittorie ottenute dagli uomini del Principato: il successo esterno per 102-90 e quello casalingo per 96-84 alla Gaston Médecin Arena.
Le difficoltà che negli ultimi mesi hanno interessato il basket professionistico francese e i suoi club sembrano essere rimaste fuori dal parquet. Tra gli aspetti più curiosi della finale, l’assenza di Matthew Strazel nelle fila del Paris Basketball e il ritorno a sorpresa di Mike James, autore di 7 punti e 7 assist, dopo essere rimasto fuori dai giochi per gran parte della stagione con Monaco.
Il pubblico dell’Adidas Arena, tra cui numerose personalità del mondo dello sport e dello spettacolo come Alexis Lebrun, Omar Sy e Nicolas Batum, ha assistito a una sfida spettacolare. Le due squadre sono rimaste in equilibrio fino alla sirena finale, quando il tabellone ha premiato gli ospiti del Principato con il punteggio di 101-92. Decisivo il sorpasso operato da Monaco nel momento cruciale dell’ultimo quarto, quando il punteggio è passato sull’81-85.
Elie Okobo è stato nominato MVP del 2026 grazie ai suoi 12 punti e 15 assist messi a referto in gara-5. Per lui si tratta del terzo riconoscimento individuale della stagione, dopo quelli ottenuti nelle finali, nella stagione regolare e nella Leaders Cup.
Con questo successo, la Roca Team chiude una stagione da record. Già qualificata alla prossima Eurolega, la formazione del Principato guarda ora con ambizione ai prossimi obiettivi, alimentando l’entusiasmo dei propri tifosi e degli appassionati di basket, sia in Francia sia a livello internazionale.
