Behind Verstappen, both McLaren drivers starred but also found themselves in the middle of a storm. Oscar Piastri had briefly gained an advantage over Norris thanks to a rapid pit stop, only for a slower tyre change for Norris to shuffle the order. In a dramatic twist, the team ordered Piastri to hand back the position, ensuring Norris crossed the line in second. The decision sparked heated debate among fans and the paddock, with accusations of “favouritism” and questions about sporting fairness.
Norris defended the move, calling it “fair” and consistent with team ethics, while Piastri admitted he held no regrets, though acknowledged the situation deserved further reflection.
The podium and the battles behind
Alongside the McLaren duo, Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) finished fourth, cheered on by the tifosi but ultimately too far from the frontrunners. Further down the order came George Russell (Mercedes) and Lewis Hamilton, who staged a solid comeback from tenth to sixth despite criticism over a chicane cut in the opening phase.

Strategia perfetta, ritmo da dominio
Partito dalla pole—stabilita con una media incredibile di 264,681 km/h—Verstappen ha vissuto un breve brivido all’avvio, cedendo momentaneamente la prima posizione a Norris dopo aver tagliato la chicane; già al giro 4, però, il campione olandese riprendeva il comando con uno staccatone magistrale alla prima curva. Una scelta che ha sollevato non poche polemiche sia fra i tifosi che nel paddock, tra accuse di “favoritismo” e dibattiti sulla correttezza sportiva.
Norris ha difeso la decisione, definendola “giusta” e parte dell’etica interna al team, mentre Piastri ha assicurato di non nutrire rimpianti, pur riconoscendo che il tutto merita una riflessione più profonda.
